Our Story: Why We're "Marble City" Lacrosse
The name of our program is a tribute to Knoxville’s history as the Marble City — a title earned in the late 1800s for the production of a distinctive pink-hued stone known as Tennessee marble, found only in quarries around the Knoxville area.
Tennessee marble is featured prominently in many buildings, both locally and nationally. To name just a few: it’s found in the Tennessee Supreme Court and United States Post Office building and East Tennessee Historical Society Headquarters and Museum in Downtown Knoxville. It was also used in landmarks such as the National Gallery of Art, National Air and Space Museum, and United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., the New York State Capitol and Grand Central Station in New York City, N.Y, and many other locations.
The name “Marble City Lacrosse” represents our roots and our mission - building a program that is strong, lasting, and local.
The purpose of our program is to create opportunities for Marble City Lacrosse players to develop and succeed - on and off the field - all while growing the sport of girls lacrosse in Knoxville through purposeful skill development and high-level competition.
The pillars of our program push our players and coaches to challenge themselves, stay dedicated, and work hard for something bigger than themselves.
We are proud to be the only travel girls’ lacrosse program based in Knoxville, and we’re committed to growing the game in our community.
